Instructor Services
Would you like a career change? Have you got a passion for driving?
Have you thought about becoming a driving instructor?
Here at Testing Times we offer comprehensive training in all 3 elements to the Instructor Qualification Process.
Part One
This is a test of your knowledge. There are 4 different categories to the test and you must pass each section to pass the test. Each sections pass mark is 80% and the overall pass mark is 85%.
The 4 categories you will be assessed on are:
- road procedure
- traffic signs and signals, car control, pedestrians and mechanical knowledge
- driving test, disabilities, and the law
- publications and instructional techniques
You will also be required to pass the hazard perception section of this test in the same sitting. The pass mark for this is 57 out of a possible 75.
The advice is that the studying you do in the theory part of the qualification process will be the knowledge you require to a) transfer learning and b) teach the core syllabus. We therefore advise that a comprehensive study technique is best practice here and not just “going through the mock questions”. We will be with you every step of the way to help with your knowledge and understanding of the syllabus.
Part Two
This section of the qualification process is the practical driving ability. This is essentially the “defined outcome”.
The test lasts for approximately 1 hour and takes in various road and traffic conditions. You will be expected to read a number plate from at least 26.5 metres (for a new style number plate) or 27.5 metres (for an old style number plate). You will also be asked 5 “show me tell me” questions (3 tell me when stationary and 2 show me on the move). You will be asked to carry out 2 of the current reversing manoeuvres and drive for at least 20 minutes of the test independently (either following traffic signs or a sat-nav).
In order to pass the part 2, you require no less than 6 Driver Faults with no Serious or Dangerous Faults Recorded.
At Testing Times, we offer in car training to help you best prepare for your part 2 and keep record logs for you to continue your development outwith you lessons.
Part Three
This is the instructional Ability section of the Process. This is where you combine your knowledge and understanding (Part One) and your practical abilities (Part Two) to successfully deliver a Client Centred Lesson.
We will guide you through this process, offering you the required training to become an all round Driving Instructor and subsequently pass your test.
We have a comprehensive part 3 course which consists of all topics you require to teach along with supporting goals to improve your performance. The course itself is designed to take a minimum of 40 hours (this could be more if required) and also falls in line with the regulations should you choose to apply for a Potential Driving Instructor Badge to help with your training.
In order to pass your Part Three you will be assess on 3 main competencies:
- Lesson Planning
- Risk Management
- Teaching and Learning Strategies
you require to score a minimum of 31 out of a possible 51 to obtain a Grade B and 43 out of a possible 51 to obtain a Grade A.
